Expert Tips for Your Outdoor Celebrations

Here in the Los Angeles area we do everything outside and we especially love celebrating outdoors in the warmth of the sun and the soft sea breezes but let’s be real, our sun is HOT and those breezes can turn truly windy so here are some key tips to keep in mind to help you have a successful celebration outdoors!

The #1 piece of advice that all balloon professionals will give you regarding outdoor decor is AVOID BLACK AND OTHER DARK COLORS. I realize that can be difficult to do if your business logo has dark colors or during Graduation season when so many school colors are Navy, Maroon, Black, Purple and more or when that special birthday celebration is all black and gold.

The sun is hard on dark colors. Let me rephrase that. The sun can be downright brutal on dark colors. The balloons do not last as long, they are more prone to popping and they get an ashy or velvety look to them from the heat and sun. On really hot days they can even start welding themselves to each other. Go for whites, light neutrals, pastels and lighter or brighter colors that will retain their color better than dark balloons. If dark colors are necessary for your theme let them be secondary accents rather than the main focus to prolong the lifespan and vibrancy of your balloons.

When planning your outdoor decor you can’t avoid the sun completely but try to incorporate shade-provided areas to protect your balloon displays from direct sunlight whenever possible.

Stay away from “shine” products applied to your balloons to keep them looking shiny and fresh as they can intensify the sun’s effect on balloons which can result in increased breakage.

Additionally, consider using air-filled decorations instead of helium-filled ones to ensure stability and prevent balloons from flying around uncontrollably in the wind, which can lead to a messy look and potential safety hazards. Air-filled designs can be securely anchored to stationary objects or frames for a more polished and secure outdoor setup.

Cheers and Happy Partying!
